To show the legacy of one of the first visitors to the Malabar Coast, traders from Kublai Khan's court erected them from 1350 to 1450 A.D. The Portuguese built the palace in 1557, and gave it to Raja Veera Kerala Varma of Kochi.
Pay a visit to Kollam. Here, you can go to Mayyand where you can find Subramanya Temple at Umayanallor. In Kozhikode, you will find Pazhassiraja Museum and also an art gallery. Ancient excavated earthenware, antique bronzes, ancient murals, megalithic monuments such as umbrella stones, and models of temples are displayed in the museum, and exotic collection of paintings of Raja Ravi Varma are exhibited for the public in the gallery section.
Pay a visit to Palakkad, and you can see the old granite fort (Palakkad Fort) in the midst of Palakkad town. Hyder Ali of Mysore built it in 1766. It is now under the authority of Archaeological Society of India.
In Thekkady, there is one of the world's most exotic natural wildlife reserves, which is known as the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. Having an area of 777 sq. km, it was declared a tiger reserve in 1978. In Trivandrum, you will see Padmanabha Swamy Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It was built in the architectural style of Kerala. It is now situated in the East Fort.
Onam, a 10-day harvest festival, starts in August. Malayalis observe Therayattam festival to appease the demons. In Pangala Utsasvam, only women observe this festival, by going to the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple.
