Kerala wildlife sanctuaries house different types of wild animals and birds. Indeed, you can see wild animals like Nilgiri Tahr, leopard, elephant, lion-tailed macaque, and squirrels of type Malabar giant squirrel. Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary - Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary is a famous reserve in Idukki district, having an area of 90 sq.km. Apart from giant- grizzled squirrel, you may find wild animals like spectacled cobras, vipers, black eagles, bonnet macaques, and spotted deer. Many Xerophytes species of thorny scrub forests, high sholas, wet grasslands, and dry deciduous forests may be observed here. Spectacular craggy rocks add scenic grandeur to the topography of the sanctuary.

Eravikulam National Park - Eravikulam National Park is set up to protect Niligir Tahr. It is located in Devikulam sub-division of Idukki district. Here, you can observe Anamudi, the highest peak of the Himalayas, which is at the top of this sanctuary. Its area is about 95 sq.km.The breathtaking natural splendors of grasslands and exotic animals and birds make this park worth visiting.

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary - Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, an ornithologist's paradise, is a famous haunt of birds like herons, waterfowls, Egrets, wild ducks, teals, Siberian storks and migratory birds. In addition, there is a boat trip available for watching the bird. Here you can go fishing and boating as well. Its area is about 15 acres.

Periyar National Park - Periyar national park is a well-known tiger reserve. There is a reservoir that surrounds sancturary, and it becomes the perennial source of water to these wild animals. Some tourists come here for Indian elephants. There are now 40 tigers at the last count living here. You may see here primates like Common Langur, Bonnet Macaque, the lion-tailed macaque, and the Nilgiri Langur. Kumily is the neighboring town from Periyar.

Silent Valley National Park - Silent Valley National Park has the sylvan environment and the high attitude peaks. This park is said to be the last representative virgin tract of the entire tropical forests in the country. It is located in the Kundai hills of the Western Ghats. Here, you may find some rare plants and herbs for ayurvedic therapy. Both Attapadi Reserve Forests in the east and Nilgiri Forests in the north surround this park.
